The Ubuntu Fund has been using its resources and manpower to help many needy children across Africa. To date, they have supported over 400,000 needy children. The institution was founded in 1999 when Malizole “Banks” Gwaxula and Jacob Lief saw the need to provide many needy children with educational tools. However, they soon realized that education was not having the impact that they anticipated. This way, they carried out a comprehensive research. The outcome of the study showed that hunger and HIV were preventing most of the students from focusing on their studies. To remedy this situation, Malizole and Jacob enhanced their offing to include nutrition, healthcare and home stability.
Earlier this year, the Ubuntu Fund organized a dinner in London. They were seeking to raise £600,000. The management of the Fund posited that the 300 guests who attended the invitation-only event managed to raise over £603,000, thus surpassing their target. They stated that they would use the money to enhance the pediatric clinic. In addition, some money would go towards expanding the Fund’s school campus in the South African city of Port Elizabeth. Once all these projects have been successfully completed, the Fund would be able to enroll more disadvantaged children from the region and its environs.
During the event, Andrew Rolfe was in charge of food and entertainment. A Xhosa choir entertained the guests throughout the night. The event attracted many people, including renowned philanthropists. During the occasion, Jacob shared his speech with the audience. He posited that children needed everything for them to grow. In addition, Sinesipho Rabidyani was among the guests invited to the event. She gave her inspiring story of how her father’s drinking behavior almost ruined their life while she was young. However, through hard work, she was given a scholarship to pursue law at the university.
