Of the many contributions that have been made by businessmen, Dick Devos’ are by far superior due to not only his dedication, but also through the money that he has made through his successful campaigns. DeVos is an American entrepreneur, businessman as well as a successful philanthropist who has donated his time and money to several organizations that are involved with civic, artistic, religious, as well as educational improvement. His success and his positive reputation have enabled him to make notable contributions to notable regional as well as local organizations.
Though DeVos has remained silent about any definitive amounts he has given in the past, a recent MLive article cites he and his family revealing that they have given over $1.2 billion over the course of their lives and careers to numerous charities and causes. This does not include any of the political donations they have made, rather simply refers to his giving to causes like education and the arts. DeVos’ success has enabled him and his wife Betsy to become involved in philanthropy. One of his biggest contributions was recognized in 2010 when he opened the West Michigan Aviation Academy. This aviation academy was to be the first public charter school in the United States. This charter school was designed to be a public charter school with the incentive of the school being offered to everyone. Mr. DeVos did not want students to be excluded just for financial issues. Dick, himself, is a flying enthusiast as you can see by his helicopter landing in the video below.
To further education for students, Mr. DeVos and his wife also started a scholarship foundation. This foundation gave graduate students who have come from developing countries the opportunity to receive a free and excellent education.
